Inspiration for those who choose to abandon the hierarchy.
Say goodbye to the layered look – straight hair of all lengths is in vogue for 2023. From bold, straight pixie cuts to sleek, straight ’70s haircuts, you can create sharp styles no matter how long your hair is. Below, we asked a number of celebrity hairstylists about the latest straight haircuts they’ve seen in salons and on the runway.
Pixie Cut with Blunt Bangs
Short hair can be completely transformed by adding blunt bangs for a strong focal point. “I love choppy straight cuts (like Katy’s infamous blonde moment) because you have a lot of movement and texture to contrast straight bangs,” says Paul Cucinello, New York City celebrity stylist and founder of Cucinello Beauty.
French Bob with Bangs
According to Cucinello, the French bob with bangs is very hot in 2023, and very timeless, too. “It’s great because no matter how you style it – straight or very soft, natural waves – it’s always chic and easy to design,” he says. “Air dry it with a leave-in conditioner or just blow dry it and then run a flat iron through it to smooth it out.”
Classic Old Hollywood Bob
This look is one of the most classic straightforward cuts. “Contrary to popular belief, the classic old Hollywood Bob is one of the easiest hairstyles to style if you use natural textures,” explains Tylor Johnson, professional colorist and founder of Nous Haircare. “I love to see women with natural waves or curl patterns let their hair air dry with this look.” It’s easy to trim some of the curls around the face for the perfect look.
Blunt Bob Cut with Bangs
Get bolder by adding blunt bangs to your blunt head. “This Bob is one of my favorites,” explains Trygstad. “I love the straightforward Bob look with straight bangs-it feels super fresh and modern compared to the classic hairstyle.”
Tapered Bob
This tapered Bob is similar to a coarse bristle, but is really good for naturally curly hair. According to Johnson, this cut is perfect for girls with curly hair because it sets so easily. “Shaping gives you everything you need – all you have to do is use the right products,” Johnson explains.
The Bixie
According to Johnson, the “bixie” is a hybrid of the bob and the pixie cut. “It also looks amazingly blown out and with natural texture, making it extremely easy to style,” she says.
Lob with No Layering
According to Trygstad, suspenders are still very popular. “I’m seeing those totally un-layered suspenders that are worn/designed super straight and they’re popular again.”
Medium-Length Blunt Cut with Diamond Bangs
This is a great example of blunt curtain bangs perfectly accentuating long, straight-cut hair. “See how cheekbone length, center parted bangs create the perfect diamond shape by mirroring the lower part of her face?” Cucinello asked. “What a killer look!”
70s Blunt Cut
For this cut, think of the super 70s way, which separates right down the middle with a super straight style – no volume or body. “In fact, my younger clients are using irons again, as if the ’90s were back and that was the only hair tool that existed,” explains Trygstad.
Mermaid Hair with Blunt Bangs
Cucinello says, “The extra-long hair with straight, swept-back bangs and tapered ends without much taper is both classic and on-trend.” “This straightened look is a radical transformation and looks as striking on Lelikio as a mermaid wave version.”
