The understated Mary Jane style popularized by Twiggy in the ’60s is a shoe that comes and goes. Recently, the timeless style has occasionally resurfaced in many brands – Larroudé and Nodaleto are among the shoe brands offering them – with the latest styles featuring thick soles and high-gloss metallic finishes. This year in particular has seen an increase in interest in the shoe, probably because stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber have all adopted the shoe this year. In fact, Gerber, who happens to be a Mary Jane lover, wore the classic flats while attending a concert at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles on April 5 with boyfriend Austin Butler and close friend Camila Morrone.
For a casual night out with her squad, the model opted for her favorite plush velvet green Mary Jane slippers from LA-based cool girl brand Dôen. In fact, Gerber has worn the shoes several times, from a daytime date with Butler to running errands with her famous supermodel mother, Cindy Crawford. From there, she paired the Mary Janes with a romantic red polka dot dress. To keep warm, Gerber added a long black duster jacket over her knee-length jacket, because it does get cold at night in California. Gerber then carried Celine’s green Ava bag – one of her shoulder bags – to keep the look luxurious.
For those of you familiar with Gerber’s casual-casual style, you may have noticed that she often defaults to a simple but elegant dress code: designing sexy dresses with a pair of polished flats, just like her trusty Mary Janes shoes. A genius tailoring strategy indeed, if you ask us. Since bare-legged weather is just around the corner (if it hasn’t already appeared), try on the model’s go-to ensemble for yourself.
Gerber’s Mary Jane flats were almost off the market, but TZR did some digging and found an almost identical pair from Margaux. To recreate her look exactly, shop other similar pieces you need first.
